Financial Support

A limited number of PhD fellowships for applicants holding a Master of Science or an equivalent degree is available. The IMPRS provides office space, use of the library facilities and computer systems. In addition the Max-Planck-Institute for Gravitational Physics can assist students in the search for housing, dealing with authorities and the like. In addition foreign students may receive stipends to cover the costs of German language courses.

The PhD fellowship is typcially in the form of a working contract that includes contributions to health insurance, pension funds and is taxable. The monthly net salary is on the order of 1300 Euro, child benefits are possible.

The IMPRS provides support for students to visit specialists in their fields at German or other European institutions with whom the IMPRS is connected. There is also a limited budget for participation of students in conferences or workshops at these partner institutions, or for short invitations of specialists to deliver advanced lectures at the IMPRS.
